Wow! We all experienced the big picture, but your details make it so personal. I remember where I was when I heard the news, of course. But I was far away from it all, fortunately. I love the story of Zoe raising money to go to Denmark. Bitty's daughter went for a couple of weeks. Neither of mine have been. Caitlin went to China, and Fern lost the opportunity because of COVID. I think they will go someday.
Yes, those days, those stories we all have, hold and remember. Your details are palpable. That day found me in Boston about to fly that morning from the same airport where two of the planes had already left. Not to be and I will spare you the details that followed, at least for now. Same for the day JFK was shot and I had a one year old at home. On we go, repairing our shattered versions of what we experienced, sad but safe, sorry but sane, at least most of the time.
I knew something was terribly wrong when the cops raided the hotel that morning where I was staying before checking out to go to the airport (Logan). I ended up driving a rental car home, 2400 miles, gratis via Budget, and met several others along the highways going west. A friend, stuck in L.A. trying to fly to the east coast, bought a car and with three others drove cross country and sold the car when he got home for what he paid for it.
Seems I have in the past, here and there, probably in response to what others went through at that awful, terrible time. Interesting to think about why write about it except perhaps as a memory that had an impact and stays there among the catalog of other shocking events and what we might have learned in and through the experiences. Resilience? Fortitude? Dogged determination? Courage? Recovery?
I remember exactly what I was doing driving home from my 8 o’clock class heard what happened in NY made it home in time to see the second plane hit the other tower . 😢
I think they would, too!

I hope Caitlin and Fern get to Denmark at some point. I'm sure they would love it! 💕

Oh my, that’s a close call, Gary! 😳

Wow, that's quite a story. Have you ever written about it?

All of the above ☺️
I imagine every American knows where they were that day. I certainly do. Thank you for sharing your story.
Yes – that and the day John Lennon was shot...
