It just occurred to me that my many years of working with documentary films and filmmakers may have given me an interesting perspective on the idea of hybrid publishing.
The rough draft of the ms is finished, I'm just going through it to tighten it up and edit each frame. Hoping to sign up with a publishing team this week!
This is an interesting reframe and helpful way to approach, instead of holding out for those stories of ‘help’ that include advances, etc. Just get it done and identify what it takes. Thank you 🙏🏽
Thanks Shaista, that's what I'm thinking, too, once it occurred to me. It's a pretty good test for how much you believe in the story you want to tell ☺️
Yes! Why not? You have the experience, the skills and the talent to make it happen, just as you did with the films. It's a transfer of all of those from one environment to another, probably with more similarities than differences although you would know better than anyone else. There may be others who have done this you might know about and inquire how they did it.
I think of some journalists in different media who have written some good books. Bill Moyers comes to mind. I met him once in New York and had a good conversation about his work. Tom Brokaw did a good job with "The Greatest Generation." These guys weren't film makers per se but in the world of TV broadcasting. What about Ken Burns? My hunch is he could be a good source but it's out of my realm of understanding how to shift gears and make the switch.
Thanks Gary, good ideas. These men, however, all have the name recognition to get a book deal on the strength of their names alone. Although I've worked with Bill Moyers, I'm not in that category, which is why I'm considering the hybrid route.
I hope you will write this book. I want to read it!
Hearing you say this Karen motivates me greatly!

That's fabulous! Good luck!!!
Great connection! I really enjoyed thinking about this from a different angle.

May not be in same category but may have some ideas for you about navigating the transition.
