I wanted a little peace & quiet to finish writing a memoir (or three), so I moved to Portugal…
… where I don't speak or understand the language. No distractions, right?! 😆
From tracking down the adventures of an American housewife in Emperor Haile Selassie’s Ethiopia, to the magical realism of living on the Edge of Appalachia, to how to stumble into – and succeed in – a career in documentary filmmaking, I have stories to tell.
Surrounded by and working with storytellers, however, has left me with not enough time to tell my own. As George Harrison once said, “(Being a part of the Beatles) was like having diarrhoea and not being allowed to go to the toilet. I think a lot of people were surprised to see, 'Oh, he writes songs, too.'"
That quote has resonated with me for many years.
Fellow readers and writers, if you are curious as to what happens next with any or all of these storytelling adventures, or if you just want to be entertained, please join me for tales of the unexpected as I navigate the wonders of life in a small Portuguese farming community, continue to work on intriguing documentary film projects, and get at least one (or three) of these memoirs published!
I can balance it all, right? 😬
